
Randy Pausch and his children
From the Wall Street Journal:
Randy Pausch, a Carnegie Mellon University computer scientist whose “last lecture” about facing terminal cancer became an international sensation and a best-selling book, died Friday. He was 47 years old.
University spokeswoman Anne Watzman said Mr. Pausch died early Friday at his home in Virginia.

I heard this from NPR this afternoon on my way back home. It’s weird because I am not one to get all mushy over celebrities or such, but I immediately felt sad. He seemed like the genuine article.

Pausch described himself as an accidental celebrity. That was what made his story so appealing. You got the feeling he would be doing just about the same things whether someone was watching or not.
